Christians: If I treat your beliefs with respect, how come I don't get the same from you?

I asked an innocent question, I wasn't even trying to disprove God in anyway. Some of my answerers were very... jerkish. The weird thing is, I actually treated your beliefs with respect and I really know wanted to know the answer to my question, but yet I wasn't given the same respect. Why are you so damn hostile? I consider us equals!
